Savour Foods - Worth the Hype or Not?

Whenever you come to Islamabad, you'd get recommendations from people to try Savour Foods. When I first landed in the capital territory, the first dine out offer from my colleagues was to try Savour Foods. It has multiple branches across Islamabad and the most popular, affordable meal in the city.

Their brand claims that savour is pure Pakistani. Their brand has tried to combat the excessive addiction to fast food by introducing Pakistani style meal, take away and dine in at affordable rates. To be honest, they have lived up to their mission statement because as a newbee in Islamabad, I have not met any single person who came to know that I was new here and did not recommend savour foods right away! Every one wants you to try the best food of Islamabad which is none other than savour food.

Given the high sales taxes and vat on the fast food, savour is the best suitable option for quick satisfaction of cravings and hunger. Their menu contains humble items, that is, unlike most of the desi restaurants, savour has not included 'everything' desi or continental or their menu. As a matter of fact, they have tried to capture an interesting niche. Combating the biryani fervor and craze, they have instead focused on pulao which another desi dish but less popular than biryani. Biryani is sort of a national love. But that changes as soon as you step in Islamabad because as much as people love biryani, they love savour!

Intrigued by the recurrent recommendations from friends and colleague, I myself went to Melody Food Park, which offers multiple desi eat out options in G6 markaz to try this infamous rice dish called ''savour''. To my surprise, this local restaurant set up sells more than just the rice meals. They have options such as Kebab, desi chargha and chicken fry however, due to the widespread popularity of their rice meal, the term savour is utilized mostly to refer to this rice meal of pulao. Infact savour is a new synonym for pulao!

As mentioned before, this rice meal is not biryani but chicken pulao.  The name is as appealing as the aroma of its rice meal! Savour foods is able to maintain scalability because, all their outlets offer the same taste of pulao that is tempting and addictive. Icame to know this because I tried savour from melody the first time, then immediately the next day I started craving it and ordered from office. The outlets were different and the taste was same!

Back to my first experience at savour's melody food park outlet. Frankly speaking, the shop's outlet was messy and crowded. I was not appealed by the ambiance as in melody food park there is an open air sitting and it is surely not near to any fine dining experience. The shop of savour and its surrounding was surrounded by aroma of yakhni (chicken stock used for making pulao) which was mouth watering. The service was mediocre. The waiter delivered one plate of yakhni pulao with two kebabs and one fried chicken piece. Raita (yogurt) and salad on the side.

The serving was too much for a single person. The plate was brimming with rice and everything that was served with rice. Each time I have had savour, the food quantity is fulfilling and enough and I always end up having half of it saved for later because I get full. I have tried their desi food as well which is chargha and I find it dry and not as tasty. Fried chicken pieces are tender and tasty.

All in all, while the restaurant has room for improvement in areas of ambiance, service and display, their taste is no doubt worth trying. A bit overhyped but economical and easily available. Therefore, if you are new in Islamabad, and you have not yet tasted their savour food, it’s a must have!
